Tell me if you have ever found yourself in this situation: you see your friend wearing those jeans that are very “in” right now. That new trendy style has taken off, and everyone either has them or wants to get their hands on them. Then you order a pair you found online that you know would be PERFECT for any day and every day. When that package was delivered, you ran to your room, tried them on, and those jeans you had been waiting so impatiently for…just do not work on your body.
I know it’s disappointing, I’ve been there! Remember a few years ago when peplum tops were the big thing? Well, that’s exactly how they made me look when I tried them on — Big. I loved how peplum tops and dresses looked on everyone who wore them, so I figured they would look just as cute on me; but they didn’t. Not all styles work for everyone, and that’s okay. You just need to know your body and what styles work and don’t work for it. There is no shame in a certain style not working for you. Learn what works for you, and rock it!
Set Yourself Up For Success: The best time and place to start figuring out what works for you is when you go shopping. Shop at stores that carry your size and style. If you’re on the curvier side, stay away from those stores that only sell sizes 1, 3, and 5 (any Mean Girls fans here??). One of my favorite stores is White House Black Market. I always find something there that I love! They have a great selection of clothes, and they are great quality. From petites to plus size, they have everything from cute clothes for a girls night, or classy and chic attire for the office.
Stick to Your List: Know what you’re looking for when you go shopping. There’s nothing more dangerous in the shopping realm when you promise yourself you’re “just going to look around,” but run into a two for one sale. Know what you’re looking for, and get just that – nothing more in quantity, nothing less in quality. If a store doesn’t have what you want, don’t get down on yourself. Don’t buy something just because; Just move on to the next store – there’s plenty of them!
Shop for NOW, not 15 pounds from now: Buy clothes that fit you right now, not clothes you want to wear for when you lose weight. One of two things will happen: you’ll either wear it and feel self-conscious the whole time because it doesn’t fit right, or it will hang in your closet for months taking up that much sought-after space. You deserve to look and feel good in your clothes. To be clear, I am NOT saying if you are not a size 2 then you cannot wear certain clothes. If you want to wear a two piece swimsuit, lingerie, or shorts, then wear them! Just know you deserve to feel good. If there’s a certain style of clothing that you are not comfortable in, don’t wear it. Just like you do with the people in your life, surround yourself with positivity and the right fit, and you’ll feel great about yourself!
